.Today marks 7 years since WCSUK began. Normally we would mark the occasion with lots of posts on FB and have a bit of fun but after losing 2 lovely ladies from our private support group last week, both on the same day, it somehow seems inappropriate to celebrate anything.
We have lost 3 ladies this year alone, and it’s still only early April. Every time we lose a Peach Sister it feels like a knife in my chest. That might sound a bit melodramatic to some of you but these women, especially the ones in our private support group, have become like family; indeed we are a small family. They all support each other, often when going through tough times themselves.
Over the 7 years that WCSUK has been in existence we have lost 17 women, of all ages, to womb cancer. This is the cancer that apparently is an “easy” cancer to have or one of the “best” cancers to get. This is what many of our ladies have been told by their Consultants an GP’s.
I somehow don’t think that the families of the ladies we have lost would think of it in those terms.
Of the 17 ladies who have been taken by womb cancer I have only personally met a couple of them but feel like I knew every single one of them.
So, no fanfare today. Just a quiet determination to carry on raising awareness of the most common gynae cancer and the 4th most common cancer to affect women.
The cancer that most defintely is not a “good” or “easy” cancer.
May all our Peach Sisters rest in peace.
